Replacing Scissors

Standard Size

Standard sized, type W2, scissor hinge mechanisms hook in 2 metal "hooks" and 2 metal "loops" (top left and middle images) at scissor hinge hold/nob positions shown in the top right image.

The scissor hinge mechanism can come apart into two pieces and is held together by two hinge nobs that fit into hinge nob grooves (highlighted in orange in the top right image).

First, slip the top loop holds/nobs of the outer part of the hinge into the loops (bottom left image).

Second, (bottom middle image) position the inner part of the scissor hinge so that it's hook hold/nobs are at the open "mouths" of the hooks. Third (bottom right image, green arrows), push the hook hold/nobs of the inner part of the scissor hinge up into the hooks. Fourth (bottom right image, orange dots), push the inner part down so that it's hinge nobs clip into the hinge nob grooves of the outer part.

Other Sizes

Type W2 keyboards use 3 sizes of scissor hinge mechanisms (see image at right). Like the standard size, all sizes hook in 2 metal "hooks" and 2 metal "loops." The method of replacing all sizes is pretty much identical to that of the standard size (see above) - although doing this for the small size is more fiddly.

Removing Scissors

This is just the reverse of the method of replacing scissors [See the previous section, "Replacing Scissors"].
