Replacing Scissors

Standard Size

Standard sized, type B2, scissors hook onto 1 "flange" + 2 metal "hooks" (top middle image) at scissor locations shown in the top right image.

First, slip the bottom flange hold under the bottom flange (bottom left image). Secondly, gradually but firmly, press down on the upper half of the scissor hinge to push it over the 2 top hooks (bottom middle image).

Tip: The top, upward facing side of the scissor is flat and flush,
while the downward base facing side is not.

Other Sizes

Type B2 keyboards use 4 sizes of scissor hinge mechanisms (see image at right). Like the standard size, all sizes hook, onto 1 "flange" + 2 metal "hooks." The method of replacing all sizes is nearly identical to that of the standard size (see above). The small size differs from the standard case in that everything (hooks, flange and scissor) is rotated 90°. The method for the large and extra large is the same as the standard except that it is better to press down with 2 fingers rather than 1.

Removing Scissors

All four sizes of type B2 scissor hinge mechanisms can be removed with the same method:

  • Lift up the inner part of the scissor hinge (at the green spot in the top image at right).
  • With the inner part still lifted up, gently push in on the outer part of the scissor mechanism at the point indicated by the green arrow in the bottom image at right.
The scissor should easily "pop-off."
