| KEY REPLACEMENT HELP FOR TYPE W1 DELL KEYS | |
Removing a Key-capSimply slide a fingernail, or similarly flat, stiff edge, under a corner of the key-cap and pull up gradually until the key-cap "pops" off. |

Replacing Scissors | |
Standard SizeStandard sized, type W1, scissors hook onto 1 "flange" + 2 metal "hooks" (top middle image) at scissor locations shown in the top right image. First, slip the top flange hold under the top flange (bottom left image). Secondly, gradually but firmly, press down on the lower half of the scissor hinge to push it over the 2 bottom hooks (bottom middle image). |

Other SizesType W1 keyboards use 4 sizes of scissor hinge mechanisms (see image at right). Like the standard size, all sizes hook, onto 1 "flange" + 2 metal "hooks." The method of replacing all sizes is nearly identical to that of the standard size (see above). The small size differs from the standard case in that everything (hooks, flange and scissor) is rotated 90°. The method for the large and extra large is the same as the standard except that it is better to press down with 2 fingers rather than 1. |

Removing Scissors : Two Methods[It is useful to first read the previous section, "Replacing Scissors."]Method 1 : "Push and Lever"We prefer this method. It is easy and elegant to use on the two large hinge scissor sizes; while, for the standard and small size hinge scissors, it is elegant but only easy if you have handy a suitable tool. Do NOT use a lot of force with this method: If you are having trouble with it use Method 2 instead. | |
|
One side at a time, you get one hook-hold out from under its hook by: (i) pushing the hinge scissor's edge (see image's red arrow); and (ii) positioning a stiff "thingy" (explained below) just under the other scissor edge and levering this hook-hold edge out from under the hook (see image's green arrow). Repeat this on the other side. |

| The stiff "thingy" can be a finger nail, this works well for the larger hinge scissor sizes but not so well for the smaller hinge scissor sizes. The point of a Swiss Army knife blade, or similar object, works well as the stiff "thingy" for the smaller hinge scissor sizes. | |
Method 2 : "Pull Up and Push Down"All four sizes of type W1 scissor hinge mechanisms are made of 2 parts, i.e. an outer and an inner part - those of the standard size shown at right. They are joined by 2 "nob" hinges on the inner that fit into 2 notches in the outer (highlighted in blue at right). |
